A Research on Briquetting of Greenhouse Pepper Crop Residues CIGR Journal
BİLGİN, Sefai.
Greenhouse cultivation is widespread in Turkey, and tomato, pepper and eggplant among the vegetables are grown densely in greenhouses. Every year, huge amounts of crop residue are produced from these greenhouses, and the vast majority of these residues are dumped in landfills and out of the greenhouses without evaluating in any way. These crop residues are organic matters and can be evaluated as a biomass energy source. In this study, dried ground greenhouse pepper crop residues were briquetted in the hydraulic press with maximum capacity of 210 MPa and a punch-conical die set, and physical properties of briquettes regarding briquette quality were determined. The briquetting experiments were conducted at 7.06 % moisture content (w.b.), 0.732 mm geometric...

Development and performance evaluation of a piston type hydraulically operated briquetting machine with replaceable moulds CIGR Journal
Akogun, Opeyemi Ayodeji; Waheed, Mufutau Adekojo.
This study focuses on the development and performance evaluation of a piston type briquetting machine with replaceable moulds. The properties of the briquettes produced from cornhusk (CH), cassava peel (CP), sawdust (SD) at different torrefaction conditions and particle size less than 1.8 mm were studied with cassava starch as binder. The fuel application of the feedstock for co-firing in coal engines was evaluated by combustion indices. This machine has a replaceable cylindrical or square mould that could be used interchangeably. The machine has the capacity to produce 576 briquettes on an 8-hours operation while the biomass material flow rate for densification is 1.58 L/h. The highest maximum density of 1.09 g/cm3 was attained for cylindrical CP...

Physico-Mechanical and Fuel Properties of Sawdust Briquettes using Abelmoschus esculentus Waste as a Binder CIGR Journal
Ohagwu, Chukwuemeka; Nwakaire, joel; Amaefule, Desmond; Anyanwu, Cosmas; Nwaezeh, Chiadikobi.
Various physicomechanical, and fuel properties of sawdust briquettes with Abelmoschus esculentus (okra) waste binder additive were determined. Elemental analysis was done to determine the oxygen (O), hydrogen (H), and carbon content of the briquettes.  Volatile matter, ash content, fixed carbon, heating value, density, compressive strength, stability, durability, and shatter resistance. 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% Abelmoschus esculentus composition per weight of the biomass were used. The 5% Okra briquette had the highest volatile matter and heating value of 85.46% and 17.82 MJ/kg, while maintaining the lowest ash content and moisture content of 1.59% and 7.6%, respectively. The briquette with 5% Abelmoschus esculentus (Okra) composition had the highest carbon...
